Unexpected Outcomes
Even though birth is natural, it’s not always easy. Sometimes mom or baby needs support or even medical intervention than we can’t give them here at the Birth Center. In those cases, we are very fortunate to have access to hospitals where we can send you for more care.
When we transfer your care, the hospital staff, receiving physician or the paramedics take responsibility for your care. Your midwife moves into a support position.
If we are able, a midwife or student on your team will go with you. However, we will have to take into consideration a wide range of variables that may affect our ability to be with you continuously.
If we are not with you, please remember that we are always only a phone call away. You can call us with questions, update us on the progress, and let us know if you would like us to join you as our availability changes. We would love to be there if we are able.
Please remember that in a hospital your doula and partner will help advocate for your comfort and care. Remember to ask questions. And ask more questions. And, use your voice to make sure you the staff at the hospital is aware of your needs and preferences. They want to meet your needs. Communication is very important to help them serve you better.
