We believe doulas are one of the best investments you can make to preserve your out-of-hospital birth. But, the reality is that they are an investment.

We haven’t met some of these doulas — so be sure to interview them.

Here are the basic things we think you need:

• Must be an “in person” option (not virtual)

• Ideally they join you in early-labor before the midwife team arrives.

• They understand and are comfortable with midwifery care.

We have 2 lists of doulas:

Newer doulas: may have more availability and lower costs
More experienced: may have more skills
